Dotty Owens

Hi, my name is Dotty Owens. I began my journey into real estate in 1980 when I manually processed mortgage applications for various banks at the Credit Bureau. Four years later, after helping to automate their mortgage department, I found myself about as far as I could go with the company so I began looking for a new job.

I came across an ad in the newspaper for an Office Manager position for a new mortgage company that was just opening up. I applied and got the job, thanks to my years of credit experience. I loved what I was doing and worked hard at my job. In 1996, my boss rewarded me with a unique opportunity to become his partner. In 2010, I became the sole owner of the mortgage company.

My experience in the mortgage industry sparked my interest in becoming a realtor. I wanted to expand my knowledge of the business that I loved. I thought that if I got my real estate license, I could provide my clients with one more added service. After I obtained my license, I briefly worked for a large real estate firm before a friend of mine introduced me to Al Jacobs at Sunset Creek Realty, where my friend was working. Being a new realtor meant that I had a lot to learn. Al took me under his wing and with all the patience of a saint, taught me the right way to be a realtor. He shared the same values that I did and so did the other people in the office.

I have been at Sunset Creek Realty for over 7 years now. I found myself working primarily with buyers, however recently that has changed. I now have a few listings of my own that I have been working on. I pride myself in my ability to work for my clients and stand behind them in every way I can. When I show a house, I show it to them as if I were purchasing it. I open the cabinets, turn on the faucets, flush the toilets, and encourage my clients to ask questions so I can get the answers they need to make an informed decision.

I have been blessed with amazing clients to work for. Many of them stay in touch with me throughout the years, keeping me abreast of the happenings in their lives as they reach new milestones. Some have even become lifelong friends. Because I have been so blessed, I have made it my goal to give back to my community. For the past 10 years, I have volunteered with the Connecticut Association for Human Services as a VITA Site Coordinator (Volunteer Income Tax Assistant), I’ve volunteered my services running the silent auctions with the American Liver Foundation and the Hole in the Wall Gang. I’ve also volunteered in the DARE program throughout the years for many of their functions.

I made a great career choice. I work hard and love what I do. What more could you ask for?

We are now proud owners of a beautiful 3 bedroom, single family house in Trumbull, CT and we could not have done it without the help, drive, dedication and determination of our Real Estate Agent, Dotty Owens of Sunset Creek Realty.

Needless to say this was a short sale, we were in for the ride of a lifetime, but Dotty was there every step of the way. She was very effective and accommodating from the start. Though my husband was a Connecticut resident, I was commuting from Canada monthly to look at houses, and Dotty would always accommodate us whenever I was in town. Not to mention she had to get the listing agents onboard sometime at last minute so she would have access to the properties. She did these tasks behind the scenes and we were never impacted negatively.

Dotty had a very good understanding of want we wanted and that made the process much easier. At the negotiating table, Dotty outdid herself. She is very experienced and that was evident from her maneuvering us through that area with very satisfying results. She is definitely not shy but professionally aggressive, and this saved us over $25,000 in the end, not including the repairs that were made and approved by the city of Trumbull prior to our closing.

Dotty identified a major fire hazard, and when the necessary efforts were not be made to correct same by the seller and their agent, she used all necessary avenues to get the issue resolved. She is amazing.

If we had problems Dotty knew where to find answers to our satisfaction, and she represented us well as she got to understand our preferences and wishes. She called while we were away on vacation and gave us necessary updates, cost for phone calls was never an issue, and she just did her job well.  Dotty called with updates even when she herself was on vacation with her family in California.

We could never have asked for a better agent to guide us through such an experience, and we are loving our home every day!
